Today in Psychiatry
The
Great ADHD Myth
The psychiatrist who identified attention deficit disorder - the
condition blamed for the bad behaviour of hundreds of thousands
of children - has admitted that many may not really be ill.
Shock
figures for mental health care
MENTAL health patients in Burton are among the most likely in the
Midlands to be given controversial electric shock treatment, it
has emerged.
Figures obtained under the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act show
that more than 3,600 electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) treatments
have been administered in Staffordshire since 2002. The practice
is banned in some European countries.
SCHOOL
UNIFORMITY
The exuberance of childhood celebrated in books such as Just William
is now frowned upon as inappropriate behaviour, resulting in more
and more children being prescribed behavioural drugs.
Electric
shock therapy outrage
According to the statistics, the controversial electroconvulsive
therapy has been administered 3,400 times in Worcestershire since
2001 - more than any of the 27 health trusts nationwide that have
provided figures apart from Leicestershire.
"Psychiatrists cloak shock treatment in medical legitimacy,
the effects of which are horrific, and the full ramifications are
not explained to the patients or families, The brutality of ECT
shows psychiatry has not advanced beyond the cruelty and barbarism
of its earliest treatment" (Commission spokesman Chris Wrapson)
Schools
told it's no longer necessary to teach right from wrong
SCHOOLS would no longer be required to teach children the difference
between right and wrong under plans to revise the core aims of the
National Curriculum. Instead, under a new wording that reflects
a world of relative rather than absolute values, teachers would
be asked to encourage pupils to develop secure values and
beliefs. The draft also purges references to promoting leadership
skills and deletes the requirement to teach children about Britains
cultural heritage. ...The existing aims state that the curriculum
should develop childrens ability to relate to others
and work for the common good. The proposed changes would remove
all references to the common good.
100
women raped or assaulted on mixed sex NHS wards
Vulnerable women patients have suffered more than 100 rapes, sexual
assaults and incidents of sexual harassment in NHS hospitals in
just two years, it has been revealed.
The shocking tally emerged in a confidential study blocked from
publication by the Department of Health for the past eight months,
a delay which health campaigners claim has prevented steps being
taken to stem the attacks.
Psychiatrists
admit:
- "No biological tests for any mental illness"
- "There are no real cures right now in psychiatry"
- "No biopsy you can do that says this person is depressed
- this person is bipolar"
- "We don't have any specific blood tests or other tests
that are definitive for any mental illness whatsoever."
